I’m so excited to finally share Emersyn’s nursery with you all! Would you believe that this room started out as Jeff’s man cave? We’re talking sports memorabilia, weights, fishing rods and surfboards. When we found out we were having a girl, it didn’t take too much convincing from me to get Jeff to agree to let me do a complete makeover of this space to fit our little blessing.
I started off the planning journey by thinking I wanted to do an ocean theme and choose blues, greens with hints of gold and silver. We live about a mile from the beach so I know I wanted blues and greens in the nursery.
I knew I wanted to paint Emersyn’s room a shade of mint, since we have shades of mint and teal throughout the house. What started as the aforementioned color scheme, quickly turned into the mint, shades of pink and neutrals that you now see today. You might remember that my living room has a bright turquoise accent wall behind the couch. While I didn’t want to go as dramatic, I’m loving the color we ultimately chose which was Botanical Mint from Valspar. We chose that brand because of the Zero VOCs.
Even before Emersyn was born, I would sit in her room when all we had was the Delta Furniture glider and the pouf, and close my eyes and think of what it would be like to have a daughter and what our life would be like as a family of three. I would drink my morning coffee in this room and take in the morning light before Jeff would wake up.
Before I had an exact idea of how I wanted to decorate the nursery, Jeff and I went to buybuy BABY to register for Emersyn. I talked about my wonderful experience with buybuy BABY in this registry post. I honestly didn’t plan on deciding on any furniture when we decided to register for the nursery. I was in the furniture department at buybuy BABY and the furniture specialist was taking time to show us cribs and I wasn’t sold on anything because I didn’t feel like anything was “special enough”. I know, total first time mom statement.
Then, it was as if a spotlight shown on the crib in the front of the furniture section and suddenly appears the Kingsley Venetian line. I really liked the antique white color, but when I was told that both pieces come in Champagne Gold, I was IMMEDIATELY sold! The champagne color matches so many pieces in our house already so it was perfect!
For the glider, we decided we wanted something neutral, comfortable of course, and with a nice clean line to it. I love the sand color of the Delta Furniture Glider. It was really easy to put together and it’s really comfortable! I love that the color blends so well with the rug from Rugs Rugs.
Our condo is pretty small so we needed to do as much with the space as possible. We also only have one wall that doesn’t have a window or doors. Since we decided to put the crib on the wall without windows, I wanted to do a fun statement behind her crib.
I originally was going to buy floral letters from Etsy but they were almost $100 a letter! As a new mom, I was not about to spend that kind of money and considering the amount of letters in Emersyn’s name, it would have cost me a pretty penny. So I decided to get crafty, and went to Hobby Lobby, bought wood letters, silk flowers and plugged in my handy hot glue gun and went to work. I love the way they turned out and they were really easy to make. I love that I’ll be able to tell Emersyn that I made something in her room!
